when you pick up your tablet or mouse or whatever the cools kids use these days, dont just straight to drawing
practice figure drawing here
artists.pixelovely.com/ as a warmup for about 30 minutes or less, depending on how much time is allotted to you for art
it warms up your hand and you get to practice.
i usually do a lot of 30 second ones for humans because that's what i'm working at but there are animal options there too.
you can also try the class one where they slowly extend the time you have to draw the thing
and THEN draw
first, you might get inspiration
secondly, you get to practice AND it's a free warm up
PICTURE REFERENCES UHMMMMM???
yes
uh
it's really nice and you get better
also DONT try to stylize anything ok
i know that you might think that your eye/ear/paw style is cute and EASY but art isn't supposed to be EASY
if you take the EASY way out you're going to be stuck forever
you might think that "AH YEAH IT'S MY STYLE I CAN DO WHAT I WANT", but i think that generally, those who genuinely enjoy drawing strive to improve. drawing from photos not only improves your grasp on anatomy, but also you see REAL LIFE. you'll get better at shading and just EVERYTHING. yeah, when i started pencil drawings of real life they all looked really SHITTY. they still are SHITTY. but i got better. i'm usually a cynic and i'm really doubtful about things but i can't deny it. i got better at shading. yeah it's tedious. yeah you want to take a break.
you CAN take breaks but don't take the breaks as an excuse to slack off.
it's true that i have a LONG way to go before my art slips out of the "mediocre" stage. i can't deny that. but now i know HOW to improve. no matter how slow and awkward my progress, i'm getting better. i've created truly awful drawings in my sketchbook in an attempt to try something new, but those are inevitable.
your favorite artists probably draw a lot of shitty stuff too. but they usually only upload the things that they like. that's why you think their average art is really good.
annyyyyways im rambling and this turned into something about just art instead of anatomy. uh
anyways just please don't be afraid to use references. i was so against this but now they are just life savers. and look, at the end of the day when you have your new skills under your belt, you'll be able to go back to your normal style (and maybe it's gotten better??) and draw better! maybe you'll be able to draw the thing you weren't able to before! maybe the pose you tried last month looks better now!
anyways keep drawing guys!
and i'm so sorry for the lack of art im just tired and im just unmotivated.
oh ALSO if you want to get better with colors, just read lots of magazines. they have ads and just professionals designing the entire thing. they're called professionals because they know their stuff. they're being PAID to design things because they're GOOD. look closely at the colors in magazines and look at how they complement each other.
uhmmm yeah
sorry for rambling and that was probably all useless
